UNIVERSITY COURSEWORKS

Earliest to current year

At The University of Manchester, numerous amounts of fashion topics are covered, including: Marketing, Buying & Merchandising, Management and Technology. The following pages demonstrate my application of adobe skills to produce both creative and technical pieces of the highest quality.

High levels of independent thinking was required when creating unique courseworks that stand out from all submissions. This was clear to be an advantage when
achieving a 1st class in all presented courseworks.

A few slides of each coursework are displayed below.

 PROJECT

01

The first buying coursework I completed explored a specific product chosen from WGSN S/S 22 trends. The history of the product was explored and amendments were made to each CAD I produced to reflect each level of the fashion market.

Aspects such as the trend board excited my creative mindset and product amendment boards taught me how to navigate trend analysis websites such as Edited.

Key Skills Developed:

- Analysis of industry trends using WGSN
- Designing CAD's
- Creative mood boards
- Evaluation of high street, middle market and luxury brands
- Balancing creativity with commercial viability

 PROJECT

02

Researching into brand history, values and consumer needs, my first marketing report looked at makeup brand Milk and the agility of its products.

Within the report, I studied the needs of Milk's consumer and the ways in which their competitors took the first step and met these needs. This provided strong evidence of the necessary actions for milk to undertake to achieve efficient brand growth and aim higher than their competition.

This coursework taught me valuable analytical and graphic presentation skills. Developing an eye for aesthetic compositions has proven useful when presenting in front of both university peers and professionals in the workplace. Here I learnt the benefits of catching the viewers attention through psychological attributes based on brand aesthetics.

Key Skills Developed:

- Market positioning and Market environment analysis
- Brand storytelling
- Taking myself into the headspace of target consumers
- Critical analysis of competition
- Presentation skills

 PROJECT

03

Putting my creative fashion skills to physical use, my technology module required the production of a pair of shorts from scratch.

Learning to use industrial grade sewing machines encouraged precision and adaptability to ensure quality. Transferring my existing sewing skills to a new project and upgrading the intensity was eased through team learning and an agile mindset.

Organisational skills were highlighted throughout the coursework process when ISO stitches and seams were noted correctly at every stage of the process to be put in use when technically labelling the product.

Key Skills Developed:

- Sewing proficiency
- Pattern drafting and lay planning
- Cost analysis of every component of the garment
- Quantity estimation as precise as possible
- Thread quantity specification based on ISO stitch type
- Development of a quantitative analysis mindset,
encouraged by a need for precision

04

The coursework I demonstrate most pride in is my second Buying & Merchandising assignment. Here the WGSN NatureVerse A/W 23/24 trend was explored and how Mango's incorporation of this into their range is achievable.

With free creative reign I could push my limits and delve into my independent view of nature and technology's fusion. I enjoyed designing my range and experimenting with exuberant materials melted with easeful silhouettes.

Key Skills Developed:

- Trend Forecasting and adaptation

- Cost and margin analysis
- Product range development
- Commercial awareness
-Applying industry trend reports (WGSN)
-Range planning and visual merchandising

 PROJECT

05

In my final year we were assigned to work on a brief set by start-up Corium Biotech, involving strategising a plan for the implementation of lab-produced leather. Here, the plan was necessitated to include a choice of a compatible brand and country to launch in, in which I chose Chanel and Singapore. With such choices, analysis of country culture, consumer acceptance and brand desire for bio-fabricated materials were needed to rationalise my decisions.

As part of the implementation plan, I took Corium Biotechs collaboration with Chanel from product design to pop-up store layouts with in depth evaluation of every element of the delivery process.

Key Skills Developed:

- Brand repositioning

- Creative conceptualisation
- Branding and Strategy
- In-depth market research and consumer analysis
- Storytelling in Luxury markets
- Industry specific knowledge
Development of industry applicable skills
